YHA Lake Tekapo

Description

Well, we have good news and bad news.

The bad news is that the current YHA Lake Tekapo is closed from July 27.

The good news is that it's closed because we're building a brand new hostel, just a few doors down from the existing one. Our anticipated opening date is July 2018. Yay!

Check out some of the initial design concepts above. We bet that giant window looks familiar...

Alternative accommodation in Tekapo:

You can find more information about Tekapo and alternative accommodation options at www.laketekaponz.co.nz.

Nearest YHA options:

If you're set on staying with us (aww, thanks!), here are your nearest options and their drive times. Please note that booking ahead is strongly suggested, particularly for YHA Aoraki Mt Cook, as this is also a very popular destination.

Please make sure you check out road conditions before you set out; some of these drives feel longer than you think and the area does get snow for large portions of the year.

Why the new hostel?

YHA Lake Tekapo is one of our most popular hostels, sitting at more than 90% full for the majority of the year. Our current hostel is on land leased from the council, which will eventually lapse. We love the Tekapo township and want to maintain a YHA presence as it continues to develop; the best way we can do this is by vacating our current space and utilising it as housing for the builders working on our new site.

We're sad to be leaving the much-loved existing building and that we won't have a hostel open in Tekapo for a while, but we're excited about the new development to come and the improved, modern facilities we can bring you as a result.
