About Us

You might know YHA as a great place to find an affordable bed. The truth is, there’s a bit more to us than that!

We’re a not-for-profit organisation that exists to help people get out and about around New Zealand. We do that by providing a network of quality budget accommodation in some of New Zealand’s most epic spots. Hence, YHA: the Youth Hostel Association of New Zealand. Welcome!

We have nearly 200 staff in our 13 YHA-managed hostels and National Office, Franchise and Associate Partnerships with over 20 independently owned and operated hostels around the country, and host over 350,000 guest-nights in our managed network each year.  YHA today

Our Heritage

You may not know that despite our modern hostels and facilities, we’ve actually been around for a long time.
We were founded in 1932 by a really awesome woman named Cora Wilding.
