  • For the thrill seekers, go adventure caving, abseiling, rappelling and black water rafting – work your way through tight squeezes, take leaps of faith over cascading underground waterfalls and float serenely down river as you enjoy the glowworm show on the vaulted limestone galleries up above. Wet or Dry options available.
  • Take a enchanting glowworm raft ride where you gently float through the caves and experience a rather spectacular sight.
  • View the beautiful Waitomo countryside on horseback. Discover the Waitomo landscape from above ground. See rural Waitomo, sheep and cattle farms and learn about the amazing geology of the region. Witness Tomos (limestone shafts) and the beginning formations of caving systems.
  • Go hunting – Hunt deer/goat/pig/possum/rabbit/turkey/duck/fish by arrangement on private farmland with the owner, all fire arms and equipment supplied. Trophy stags available.

YHA Waitomo is the ideal facility to cater for groups wanting to explore the Waitomo Caves region. The hostel's farm location provides your group with options for activities in wide open spaces as well as being close to the multiple Waitome caves activities. 

During the summer season we can comfortably cater for groups of 10 - 15 people. 

During the period post Easter through to pre Labour weekend we are able to host up to 40 people.  

Capacity and Room Types

YHA Waitomo can cater for up to 40 people across 9 rooms.

Room types available are:

  • 5 x 6 bed multi-share
  • 4 x Private rooms – twins/doubles/triples and ensuite Quads
  • Campervan and tents sites available
Shared rooms

Group members are accommodated in comfortable bed rooms. Shared single sex bathroom facilities available. All bedding is provided (duvets, sheets and pillows) and towels can be hired for $1 each.

Private rooms

Supervisors and tour leaders can be accommodated in single, double or twin rooms with private or shared bathroom facilities. These rooms include all bed linen and towels. Please note that we have a limited number of private rooms with ensuite facilities and they are subject to availability.

Group Breakfast

Breakfast/basic food items can be purchased.

Free WiFi for Group Leaders

We know being a group leader is tough work at the best of times and you need to stay contactable as much as possible to keep things running smoothly. To help you stay connected YHA offers provides group leaders with free high speed WiFi during their stay.
