Welcome to YHA Rotorua, a purpose built backpacker hostel in the central city for your complete Rotorua experience. Rotorua’s finest lodge, YHA Rotorua offers budget backpacker accommodation right beside Kuirau Park, Rotorua’s free geothermal attraction, and only two minutes walk from shops, cafes, restaurants and beautiful Lake Rotorua.
YHA Rotorua has a choice of indoor or outdoor dining with a spacious modern kitchen as well as a large outdoor deck and BBQ. Communal backpacker facilities include a comfortable separate lounge and TV room with lots of DVDs to watch and a coin operated laundry.
Our clean, modern and secure hostel is also an active member of the Rotorua Sustainable Tourism Charter - recycling, energy efficiency and biodegradable laundry powders and cleaning products are just some of the measures taken at YHA Rotorua.

Kuirau Park - a minute's walk from YHA Rotorua, this park in the middle of town has steam vents, bubbling mud pools, and even hot pools to soak your feet in, all for free!
Sulphur Point - an easy walk from Government Gardens, this bird sanctuary is also a great place to observe sulphur vents right on the lake's edge.
Te Puia - home of the famous Pohutu Geyser and center for Maori cultural experiences. YHA members get 10% off entry when you book at reception.
Waimangu Volcanic Valley - walk through the valley for a variety of different geothermal features. 10% off self-guided walks for YHA members.
Wai O Tapu - A large geyser named Lady Knox lives here, as well as the well-photographed Champagne Pool.
Kerosene Creek and "Secret Spot" - each around 20 minutes drive from town, these are free natural hot water springs you can soak in. Ask our staff to point you in the right direction!
Polynesian Spa - the ultimate relaxation spot with lakeside views.
Hell's Gate - One part geothermal park, one part hot springs and mud baths. Sound good to us!

One of the newest purpose built hostels in town, YHA Rotorua has two self-contained group units each sleeping up to 26 people. These units have multi share style accommodation and private rooms for tour leaders/teachers. The hostel provides quality, secure and affordable accommodation for education, sports and tour groups.
YHA Rotorua can cater for up to 180 people across 61 rooms.
Room types available are:
All bedroom doors lock automatically when closed and require swipe keys for access. A duplicate set can be provided for leaders to access all rooms allocated to your group.
YHA Rotorua has two self contained group units each sleeping 26 people. Both have multi-share style accommodation and private rooms for group leaders and supervisors.
Please note that due to the layout of rooms, groups of 26 or more will be accommodated across two different group units.
You can book our group units for exclusive use for up to 26 people. You will have your own fully-equipped kitchen, dining and and lounge area, and secure key card access.
Group members are accommodated in comfortable 4 or 6 bed rooms. Shared single sex bathroom facilities are situated in each group unit.
All bedding is provided (duvets, sheets and pillows) and towels can be hired for $1 each.
Group leaders and supervisors can be accommodated in single, double or twin rooms with private or shared bathroom facilities. These rooms include all bed linen and towels.
Please note that we have a limited number of private rooms with ensuite facilities and they are subject to availability.

Each group unit has its own self-contained kitchen and dining area in addition to the main hostel communal areas.
Continental breakfast can be served in your chosen kitchen upon request for $12 per person. It includes a choice of cereals, yogurt, fruit, toast and spreads (butter, jam, honey and peanut butter), tea, coffee and fruit juice.
A packed lunch or onsite lunch and dinner options are also available upon request.
FREE booking service
A free booking service is provided for all land-based domestic travel and activities including: Interislander and Bluebridge ferries, Tranzalpine, Tranzscenic and Overland trains, Intercity coach travel and local shuttle services.

YHA Rotorua is just a two minute walk to the city centre and is handy to great activities for groups. Pak 'N' Save and Coutdown supermarkets are a 5 minute drive, 10 minutes on public transport or a 15 minute walk.
Within walking distance you will find Kuirau Park, Tamaki Maori Village and Rotorua Museum. A short 10 minute drive will take you to Rotorua International Stadium, Skyline Rotorua, OGO Rotorua, Zorb Rotorua and Agrodome among other activities.

10 minute drive from from Rotorua Airport. The most convenient option for a group is to book a shuttle bus at $70 per van door to door.

We have car parking available across the road from the hostel and street parking directly in front of reception. Coaches can also park in our car park across the road and there is a parking bay on Ranolf Street outside the groups unit that coaches can use when available.
