How YHA is keeping our guests safe during the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Do NOT travel if you are unwell. Any guest presenting to the hostel that appears to be unwell will not be accommodated.

Auckland is currently at Alert Level 1 with the rest of New Zealand at Alert Level 1 as of 22/09/2020.

Experienced Staff, Quality Systems and a Focus on Safety

Your safety, the safety of our staff and all those who work with or visit YHA are the top priority for us. Below we've summarised our actions and protocols at each Covid-19 Alert Level. These actions may be updated at any time to reflect government requirements and our own learnings. Alert Level 1

New Zealand (excl Auckland) is currently at Alert Level 1. 

At Alert Level 1 hostels are open and accepting guests. The key points here are - regular washing of hands, follow the instructions set out in the hostels, maintain appropriate social distances even in this low risk environment, do not travel if you are unwell and continue to be kind.

Guest Safety Measures
    • Contact details for all guests including phone number, residential address and email address will be recorded and stored in our systems for the purposes of contact tracing should there be a localised outbreak. Pens are to be sanitized following use by each guest.
    • Hand sanitizer will be available at reception and in guest kitchen dining areas.
    • Signage is in place to help guests understand their responsibilities with respect to using our facilities.
Staff Safety Measures
    • You may see staff wearing PPE which is entirely at their discretion. 
    • All staff follow the same rules as guests with respect to hygiene protocols. 
    • Any symptoms of personal or family illness are reported to hostel management and General Manager, Hostel Operations immediately to ensure potentially infectious staff do not come to work.
Additional Cleaning Protocols
    • Guest key cards to be sanitized immediately after checkout.
    • Staff will be frequently cleaning high touch surfaces such as desks, counters, table tops, telephones, bedside tables, light switches, door handles, bannisters, keyboards, TV remotes.
    • Staff have been trained to manage their safety and avoid cross contamination through cleaning processes.
    • New procedures are in place for cleaning laundry including baskets and containers used to collect and distribute laundry
    • For guests staying longer than 5 days, guest rooms will be serviced once per week only when guest not in room or guests may clean their own room.

Alert Level 2

Auckland is currently at Alert Level 2. 

At Alert Level 2 hostels are open and accepting guests. In addition to the Alert Level 1 protocols the following measures will also be in place. 

Guest Safety Measures
    • On arrival you will be asked if you have recently had any symptoms of illness and issued with Covid-19 hostel guidelines, no cash payments will be accepted.
    • You are required to sign in and out of when entering and leaving the hostel.
    • Hand sanitizer and disposable gloves are available at reception and in guest kitchen dining areas.
    • 2 metre social distancing is in place in public areas and occupancy is limited in multishare rooms to allow for social distancing between separate bookings.
Staff Safety Measures
    • Staff will be wearing PPE, working in bubbles and following 2 metre social distancing.  
Additional Cleaning Protocols
    • Increased cleaning protocols remain the same at all alert levels. 

Alert Level 3

For the duration of Alert Level 3 hostels are open to pre-booked guests only and we are not accepting new bookings. In addition to the Alert Level 1 and 2 protocols the following measures will also be in place. 

Guest Safety Measures
    • You will be required to stay within your room 'bubbles' within the hostel
    • Guests are only able to leave the hostel to source essential supplies or for local exercise. 
    • The guest kitchen and dining area operates on a meal shift basis. Other communal areas are closed. 
Staff Safety Measures
    • Staff will be wearing additional PPE, working in bubbles and following 2 metre social distancing.  
Additional Cleaning Protocols
    • Increased cleaning protocols remain the same at all alert levels. 
    • The frequency of these protocols increases in public areas during Alert Level 3
