YHA Kinloch, Glenorchy is located in Kinloch and is a lakeside Wilderness Lodge located on New Zealand's South Island. Within easy reach of Queenstown and a 5 minute boat ride or 26km scenic drive from Glenorchy, the backpackers offer options from multishare facilities to double room accommodation. You can self-cater or enjoy a meal in the onsite restaurant with views of Lake Wakitipu. YHA Kinloch, Glenorchy is  a stone's throw from the Routeburn and Greenstone tracks so guests can spend the days trekking, fishing, jetboating, horse-trekking or simply enjoying the magnificent natural surroundings.

The comfortable wilderness bunk rooms are the ideal accommodation choice for trampers, families and those whose prime purpose is to enjoy the outdoors. With fully made up beds with hot water bottles and spare blankets for the cooler winter nights, heaters, power outlets, sofas, mirrors and storage. The outdoor hot tub is perfect for recuperating after a hard day tramping or sight seeing. We offer track transfers, hire out bikes and fishing rods, and can arrange transport and tours free of charge.

About Kinloch

Kinloch is located on the South Island of New Zealand at the head of Lake Wakatipu, 71 kilometres north of Queenstown and 26km from Glenorchy. Glenorchy is surrounded by mountains in every direction: the Humbolt range to the west and the Richardson range to the east, the stunning view up the Dart River is to the north, adjacent to solitary Mt. Alfred. YHA Kinloch, Glenorchy sits on the lakefront in Kinloch. Mt. Aspiring National Park begins close by, just before the start of the Routeburn Track. The start/finish of the Greenstone/Caples tracks is 12km down the road.

By Car:

The hostel is 1¼ hours drive from central Queenstown. Follow the road to Glenorchy and then the signs to Kinloch, a further 26kms. The last 9kms are unsealed but the road is suitable for all vehicle types. Car parking is available.

Please note: it's highly recommended to carry snow chains at all times in the winter months.

By Bus/Shuttle/Water Taxi:

A shuttle service operates twice daily (8am and 12.15pm) from the centre of Queenstown during the trekking season: end October – end April. Please contact us for out-of-season transport options. A water taxi is available from Glenorchy direct to Kinloch. It is $15 per person with a minimum of two people. Weather dependant but is backed up by vehicle transport. Booking ahead is essential.

Kinloch lodge is situated on the edge of the lake 1 ¼ hours drive from Queenstown mid way between the Routeburn and Greenstone walking tracks. We are the perfect base for all things outdoors – hiking, field trips, biking, kayaking, fishing & bonfires!

Kinloch Lodge has been providing excellent hospitality since 1868 and the current owners, John & Toni Glover have 14 years experience of organising group functions – from family get togethers, educational groups, study or business retreats to birthdays, weddings and staff social functions.

Capacity and Room Types

YHA Glenorchy Kinloch Lodge can cater for up to 39 people across 11 rooms.

The accommodation

We have a range of different room types from double / twin to 4 share and will work with you to allocate rooms to match the group make up. We have excellent self catering facilities, tv room, full laundry, boot drying facility and Wifi throughout.

Shared rooms

Group members are accommodated in comfortable 2 -4 bed rooms. Shared bathroom facilities are located centrally to the rooms All bedding is provided (duvets, sheets and pillows and towels)

Private rooms

Supervisors and tour leaders can be accommodated in single, double or twin rooms with private or shared bathroom facilities. These rooms include all bed linen and towels.

Group Dining

Kinloch Lodge has a restaurant on site and can cater for any of your groups’ needs – breakfast, lunch, dinner, packed lunch at affordable prices.

Free WiFi for Group Leaders

We know being a group leader is tough work at the best of times and you need to stay contactable as much as possible to keep things running smoothly. To help you stay connected YHA offers provides group leaders with free high speed WiFi during their stay.
