Perfect Place and Host for our Group:
"We brought a group of 16 university students to YHA Paihia for four nights in January. Our host, Andy Larsen, greeted us warmly when we arrived and attended to all of our needs during our stay. There is so much to do and see in the area, and Andy was always on hand to make our bookings.

Andy graciously agreed to provide us with a scrumptious breakfast every morning. Croissants, yogurt, fresh bread, granola, jams and even Marmite, which required an acquired taste for Americans to enjoy. The facilities were up-to-date and cleaned daily. Since we arrived after a few days on the road, the washer and dryers were much appreciated. The common kitchen was well equipped and organized with labels to claim your personal food and beverages.

What we enjoyed most was the vibe the hostel provided. We met many fellow travelers from around the world in the lounge and outside picnic tables. The hostel itself is on a quiet street to ensure a quiet evening. However, just around the corner one can find lively cafés and shops. The beach was a short two block walk and town center (where the island ferries were located) is a 5 minute stroll away.

Town center provides a supermarket along with bakeries, coffee shops and a variety of restaurants. Although our four night stay was just about right for a group, there were other guest who were quite content to spend much more time in Paihia. Our events included the Waitangi Treaty grounds, Waka canoe, trips to Russell, hole in the rock and swimming with the dolphins cruises. We would recommend all of these as essential activities.

A couple students enjoyed a walking history tour and visited some nearby waterfalls. Whatever you decide to do in Paihia, staying at the YHA Paihia is the place to meet new friends, save some money and enjoy a good night’s rest in a clean environment attend to by a fantastic host!"
