We make your group travel easy and convenient with a range of services for group travel.
We offer a Group Booking service for groups of 10 or more people. You don't have to be a member to bring your group to YHA New Zealand. We welcome groups of all sizes and for all reasons, sports, education, arts and even small business conferences. Groups under 10 people can book online now.
Group Coordinators arrange accommodation best suited to your group, from dorm rooms to double rooms, with and without ensuites. Dorm rooms will be exclusive to your group and where possible located together for easy interaction and supervision.
All bedding is provided for your stay and includes duvets, sheets, and pillows (with pillowcases of course!), at no extra cost. If you wish to lighten your packing even further ask our Group Coordinators to add towel hire for just $1 per towel.
Our Group Coordinators will also help with the extra planning and preparation required for schools and youth groups.
A continental breakfast can be arranged upon request at YHAs Rotorua, Franz Josef, Queenstown Lakefront, Auckland International, Wanaka, Te Anau, Wellington, Mt Cook, Taupo and Nelson. The breakfast includes a choice of cereals, fruit, toast and spreads, tea, coffee and fruit juice. Gluten free and dairy free options are available upon request.
Our hostels have well-equipped self-catering kitchens stocked with cutlery, crockery and utensils. This is a cost-effective way to feed your group and to tailor to any dietary needs, so you just need to plan the menu and bring the groceries! If you would prefer to eat out, we can recommend local group and child-friendly restaurants.
Should you have any special catering requirements, our Group Coordinators will be happy to discuss and arrange this with you.
Our dedicated Groups Coordinators will offer you a free booking service for local activities and all land-based domestic travel, including: Interislander and Bluebridge ferries, Tranzalpine, Coastal Pacific and Northern Explorer trains, Intercity coach travel and local shuttle services.
Together with our partners, we’ll get you from Auckland to Rotorua or Nelson to Christchurch, or wherever your school group needs to be. We can even organise your bungees and zoo trips in each location.
YHA Rotorua has two purpose built groups units separate from the main hostel. Each unit sleeps 26 people in multi-share style accommodation, with private rooms for group leaders and supervisors. You can book these units for exclusive use for your group. You will have your own fully-equipped kitchen, dining and lounge area, and secure key card access.
If you are looking for a more exclusive experience for your group in any location, we offer the opportunity to book the whole hostel for the sole use of your party. We will be happy to discuss the options available to you and your group – freephone (within NZ) 0800 278 299.
YHA hostels are popular venues for many groups so we usually require 3 months notice to arrange exclusive use of the hostel.
For New Zealand groups wanting to travel overseas, YHA Endorsed Group status is useful as some countries require Group membership status. This is available to any bona-fide New Zealand based organisation; participants must be New Zealand residents. YHA New Zealand hostels don't require this. To be considered a group, there must be 10 or more members travelling. All group members are covered by a single group membership. Use this form to gain YHA Endorsed Group Membership.
YHA New Zealand is part of the global network called Hostelling International which connects Youth Hostel Associations from all over the world. A key part of this network is HI Groups which pulls together all the information you need when considering group travel overseas. Visit HI Groups for more information.
