Wellington Branch

The Wellington Branch has an active committee who organise an event every month or two. These activities include travel talks, guided walks, BBQs and other social evenings. Ideas for events are always welcome. All members are welcome, and encouraged to participate in the various activities as this keeps the Branch viable.

If you want to know what is coming up, make sure you update YHA with your email address, or keep an eye on this page. Email is generally used to notify Branch members of upcoming events with messages sent to all members who have expressed an interest in being informed of Branch activities.

BRANCH 60th ANNIVERSARY DINNER


The attendance list for our branch 60th anniversary is still open but must close this Thursday13 June.  If you have not already let me know you want to be there, please rsvp by Thursday.

The dinner will be held at Big Thumb (a Chinese restaurant) at 9 Allen St, Wellington (one block from the Wellington City Hostel) starting at  6.30pm on Tuesday 18th June. Format is a fixed menu buffet style (i.e. multiple dishes served at our table).  Cost will be $13 to members with the balance subsidised by the branch.

Important meeting to decide the future of this Branch

AGM - Tuesday 23 July

The 2013 Annual General Meeting of the Wellington Branch will be held on Tuesday 23 July in the reading room of the Wellington City Hostel.  Formal notice of this meeting is below, please scroll down.

Future of the Wellington Branch

At the last AGM (2012), a motion was passed to the effect that the 2013 AGM would consider the transition of the Branch to a Member Group structure.  This issue will be on the 2013 agenda. 

The continued poor support for activities and lack of members willing to become involved in Branch administration/promotion (and maybe similarly for a member group) has resulted in your committee now considering dissolution of the Branch.  Dependant on the level of support shown for and at the AGM, a motion to dissolve the branch may be considered at the AGM.

A background/discussion paper on our options will be forwarded to all Branch members at the time formal notice of the AGM is given.  This paper will lay out the options the Branch faces (i.e. status quo, change to member group, or dissolution of the Branch).  At the AGM, your committee will be very much guided by feedback received from members between now and the AGM. 

Please be aware that the lack of support presently being shown is inevitably leading your committee to table a dissolution motion at the AGM.

Your committee still wants feedback on the future of the branch.

BRANCH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Notice is hereby given that the 2013 Annual General Meeting of the Wellington Branch of YHA New Zealand will take place as follows:

Date: Tuesday 23 July 2013

Venue: The Reading Room of the YHA Hostel, Wakefield Street, Wellington

Commencement: 7.00pm

Agenda:  previous minutes, reports, annual accounts, election of officers, notified business (please see the Notices of Motion document accompanying this notice), and general business. 

Because of the importance of this meeting and the notice of motion to be considered, the meeting will be advertised in some newspapers as well as notified by email and post (only to those branch members who have not provided National Office with an email address).  Please pass this advice of the meeting on to any members who you believe may not have received this formal notice either by post, email or seen the newspaper advertisements.

Nominations are also being sought at this time – please contact the undersigned if you wish to nominate a branch member for any committee position (written, signed and seconded nominations must be in the hands of the branch secretary by 15 July 2013).  Any items to be discussed at the meeting (in addition to that already included in the Notices of Motion document) also need to be notified in advance by 15 July 2013 (to the undersigned) so they can be included on the agenda.

Notice is hereby given that a Special General Meeting of the Wellington Branch of YHA New Zealand will take place as follows:

Commencement: Following the AGM (notice above) if a valid committee is not formed

2012 Branch AGM

On Tuesday 17 July the Wellington Branch of YHA New Zealand held its 59th Annual General Meeting at the Wellington hostel. You will see from the attached draft minutes of the meeting and Chair's report; there are two items that will likely have a significant impact on the future of the Branch.

Firstly, the Branch committee was elected at the meeting as follows: 

However, the entire committee will most likely be unavailable for election at the 2013 AGM.

To keep the Branch functional, a whole new committee will need to be found – a minimum of 5 senior financial members. In the event that this fails to happen, the Branch will likely be dissolved post the 2013 AGM.

Secondly, a motion was unanimously passed to table a formal motion at the 2013 Branch AGM for the Branch to change to a Member Group. As a member group we will not need the formal administrative arrangements we are presently required to have. However this may mean that the group may slowly decay as there will not be the formal committee structure to maintain some activity and continuity.

Thus this is very much in your hands as Branch members over the next 12 months. Please give your consideration as to the structure of local representation of YHA. If you want the Branch to continue you need to:
