Geriatrix Cycle Touring Group
The Geriatrix Cycle Touring Group is an affiliated YHA Member Group, which began in 1993. They currently have around 100 members, who participate in annual domestic and international cycle adventures. These trips were all organised by Peter Bugler, the group’s founder from 1993 – 2012.
Peter has recently retired from this hands-on role but remains very much involved with the group. Recently all this hard work was recognised and Peter was awarded the Queen’s Service Medal for Services to Cycle Tourism.

Message from the Steering Committee
As you will all be aware by now, Geriatrix members Bev Greig, Lynn Sleath, and Malcolm Wade have volunteered to work with Maureen McCloy of YHA National Office to keep the group going in 2013. We held a teleconference before Christmas and agreed on some immediate tasks.
The main point for members to note is that the group can only continue with your input and assistance. There are no trips currently planned after the March 2013 tours from Nelson. We need your ideas about future trips, and we need some people to offer to be trip organisers.
We are going to draft some notes to outline the role of a trip organiser and what it entails. This person does not necessarily need to also lead the trip, or even attend. We are also going to create a record of previous trips on the YHA website as a quick guide for all future organisers.
So please give this some consideration as you ease back into the routine in the New Year. Perhaps you have some ideas about new trips – or want to again repeat a previous trip. If you think you can assist, please send me an email.
