On the edge of the Fiordland National Park, YHA Te Anau is the perfect location to access some of the world famous New Zealand tramps. This Qualmark 4+ star rated Te Anau hostel continually impresses guests with its unique homely atmosphere and cosy backpacker accommodation just a block from the shores of the gorgeous blue Lake Te Anau.

YHA Te Anau’s lovely lounge has a fireplace and offers plenty of couch space to sink into with a book or while watching one of our free movies. The Te Anau hostel’s shiny stainless steel kitchen is fully equipped and we have fresh spices and herbs growing in our ‘Edible Garden’ so you can cook up your gourmet meal with ease. This Te Anau backpackers also has the perfect outdoor deck and private native garden with a massive barbeque to get grilling on.

Car

Entering Te Anau via Highway 94 turn left onto Lakefront Drive, go past Department of Conservation on your left, turn right at the round about opposite Fiordland I-site, then take first left onto Mokonui St. The hostel is 300m on the left.
Entering Te Anau via Southern Scenic Route and Lake Manapouri turn left onto Lakefront Drive, right at round-a- bout, left onto Mokonui Street.
Off street and safe street parking available.

  • Take a day trip to Milford and Doubtful Sounds, including a magical cruise through the fjords or sea-kayak adventure.
  • Tramp one of New Zealand’s ‘Great Walks’ located around Te Anau: the Kepler track, the Milford track, the Routeburn track, the Hollyford track and the Humpridge.
  • There is no better way to see Fiordland than from the skies, take a scenic flight for a truly memorable New Zealand experience and have spectacular photos to prove it.
  • Get the adrenalin racing while in Te Anau: try scuba diving, quad biking, jet boating or horseback riding.
