YHA Christchurch is a homely, comfortable, 100 year old building with a friendly, modern atmosphere. The hostel is located near the Christchurch town centre, the Canterbury Museum, the Botanical Gardens and Hagley Park.
A wide range of comfortable backpacker accommodation is available including multi-share, female only, double, twin and well-appointed ensuite rooms. YHA Christchurch also accommodates families and groups. All rooms have flat screen TVs.
The kitchen is fully equipped with gas hob stoves and plenty of storage for your groceries. The communal lounge and dining is updated and modern and there is an outdoor garden and BBQ.
YHA Christchurch is centrally located and is handy to bus routes. It's the perfect home base to enjoy and witness the Garden City rebound and regenerate from the 2010/2011 earthquakes. Explore Christchurch’s lively entertainment scene, pop up malls, markets and thriving regeneration projects and suburbs. A full range of activities and tours is available close to the city.
Buses stop about 600m from the hostel. Most shuttles pick up at the hostel.
It is 8km from the Airport to the hostel. Super-Shuttle provides door to door transport.
The Train Station is 4km from hostel. Transfer in taxi / shuttle is about NZ$10 to return from the train station.

YHA Christchurch can cater for up to 125 people across 38 rooms.

The hostel is spread over two floors with the majority of our multi-share rooms in one area on the first floor. All bedrooms require electronic keys for access and a duplicate set can be provided for leaders to access all rooms allocated to your group. A private group lounge and dining space may be offered to groups of 30 or more if requested.
Group members are accommodated in comfortable 3 or 6 bed rooms and single unit bathroom facilities are situated in all areas of the hostel. All bedding is provided (duvets, sheets and pillows) and towels can be hired for $1 each.
Supervisors and tour leaders can be accommodated in single, double or twin rooms with private or shared bathroom facilities. These rooms include all bed linen, towels and TV’s and ensuite rooms have tea and coffee making facilities.. Please note that we have a limited number of private rooms with ensuite facilities and they are subject to availability.
Continental breakfast can be served in our group kitchen upon request for $10 per person. It includes a choice of cereals, yogurt, fruit, toast and spreads (butter, jam, honey and peanut butter), tea, coffee and fruit juice.
We know being a group leader is tough work at the best of times and you need to stay contactable as much as possible to keep things running smoothly. To help you stay connected YHA offers provides group leaders with free high speed WiFi during their stay.
A free booking service is provided for all land-based domestic travel and activities including: Interislander and Bluebridge ferries, Tranzalpine, Tranzscenic and Overland trains, Intercity coach travel and local shuttle services.
