About
Stewart Island 'the land of the glowing skies' is home to Rakiura World Heritage Park and the land of many New Zealand Bird species such as Kiwi, Weka, Kaka, Tui.
There are no banks or ATM's on the Island so if you want to pay in cash while you're on the island make sure you get to an ATM in Bluff or Invercargill.
Stewart Island's remote location and limited cell phone coverage make it easy to switch off to the outside world. However if you can't bear to give up your text habit and need to use a mobile phone, the limited cell phone coverage the island does have, only covers 027 numbers.
All Island activities including Kiwi Spotting, hiking/tramping or kayak and boat trips and tours can be organized on the Island. YHA Te Anau can also assist with these arrangements.
