YHA Kinloch

YHA Kinloch is a lakeside wilderness lodge located on New Zealand's South Island, a stones throw from the Routeburn and Greenstone tracks. Within easy reach of Queenstown and Glenorchy, the backpackers offer bunkrooms to double room accommodation. You can self cater or enjoy a meal in our restaurant, and spend the days trekking, fishing, jetboating, horse-trekking, or simply enjoying the magnificent natural surroundings.

The backpackers comfortable Wilderness bunk rooms are the ideal accommodation choice for trampers, families, and those whose prime purpose is to enjoy the outdoors. With fully made up bunks with hot water bottles and spare blankets for the cooler winter nights, heaters, power outlets, sofas, mirrors, and storage what more can a backpacker ask for in this superb location.

Kinloch Lodge is an author's pick in the latest New Zealand Lonely Planet!
Our pick: Kinloch Lodge… Across Lake Wakatipu from Glenorchy, this excellent retreat is a great place to unwind or prepare for a tramp. Rooms in the bunkhouse are comfy and colourful, with an outdoor hot tub and an indoor DVD-packed lounge; both just right for putting your feet up after a long tramp. The 19th-century Heritage Rooms are small but plusher. A cafe, bar and good restaurant (mains $15-30; open 8am-8pm) are on site and if you're eating outside, look forward to stunning lake views and the attention of just maybe the South Island's friendliest dogs. Kinloch is a 26km drive from Glenorchy, or you can organise a five-minute boat ride ($10) across the lake. Kinloch Lodge can also arrange track transfers to various trail-heads. Even if you're not a tramping type, it's worth staying at least a night to soak up the relaxed ambience."
