YHA Hanmer Springs, Kakapo Lodge

YHA Hanmer Springs, Kakapo Lodge is a two-storey purpose built backpacker hostel with a relaxed friendly atmosphere. This modern hostel is located just 200m (literally a three minute walk) from the Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and Spa and the village centre with all its many cafes, shops and restaurants.

Relaxing inside the YHA Hanmer Springs hostel is easy with its log fire, underfloor heating, movie hire, large kitchen and open common room. Take State Highway 7 (From Christchurch head west, from West Coast head east)

Turn off at State Highway 7a.

The hostel is 10 minutes away from the turn off. We are the big yellow building on your left as you are coming into the town, before the tree lined avenue.
Bus/Shuttle
Hanmer Connection drops off at the Hostel if you ask in advance.

Southern Link East/West and Naked Bus (Intercity) drop off at the State Highway 7/ 7a Junction.

We offer pick ups from this point for $10 per person. The junction is 10km from the Hostel.
