YHA Paraparaumu, Barnacles Seaside Inn

Situated right on the beach at Paraparaumu with stunning views of Kapiti Island, this charming backpackers hostel began life as a hotel in 1923 and has been lovingly restored to its former glory with lovely oak furniture in the rooms and historic photos of the Kapiti area.

YHA Paraparaumu Barnacles Seaside Inn offers a variety of accommodation, many rooms have sea views which you can request when booking. The hostel is only 200 metres from cafes and restaurants and near the Coastal Bike track and various beach walks.

This Paraparaumu backpackers is close to Kapiti Island, a nature reserve for New Zealand’s special bird life. Bookings and pick ups for Kapiti Island tours are available from the hostel. How to get there...
Details
Car
From Wellington takes 45 minutes.

From highway 1, follow the signs to Paraparaumu Beach. If you are coming from Wellington you will need to take a left at the BP service station.

If youre coming from north of Paraparaumu it will be a right at the BP service station.

This will bring you on to Kapiti road. Follow this road all the way to the end, take a left at the round about.

We are on your left just after the round about.

Bus/Shuttle
Bus No. 71 or 72 to Paraparaumu Beach.

Bus No. 73 and 74 also come out to the beach, but are a lot less frequent.
Plane
Train
Take Paraparaumu line train to Paraparaumu station.

There is a bus that meets each train coming from Wellington (bus no. 71 & 72)

This will bring you down to Paraparaumu beach….You could ask the driver to drop you outside the hostel, theyre very friendly!

Taxi from Paraparaumu station approx $12 to the hostel.
Ferry

Take train to/from Ferry Terminal in Wellington.

Follow highway 1 north (see car directions).
