YHA New Plymouth, Egmont Eco Lodge

New Plymouth's highest rated backpacker hostel with a Qualmark 3 Star plus rating.

YHA New Plymouth Egmont Eco Lodge is a centrally located hostel in a seven acre valley surrounded by three acres of New Zealand native forest and a bubbling stream. Wake to the chorus of birdsong in the modern  backpacker hostel accommodation after a perfect night’s sleep. Relax on YHA New Plymouth’s sunny decks or laze in hammocks under trees. Dare to feed the monster Egmont eels by hand.

The YHA New Plymouth hostel is within easy driving distance of Mt Taranaki / Mt Egmont or the hostel staff can provide a shuttle bus to Egmont National Park.

YHA New Plymouth Egmont Eco Lodge has a large variety of backpacker accommodation (single, double, twin, shared and family) available as well as tent sites. In the evening sip a cappuccino, watch theatre and relax with a slice of the complimentary delicious Egmont Cake served nightly. About New Plymouth

The attractive port city of New Plymouth on the west coast of the North Island is the best town from which to discover Mt Taranaki (Egmont), New Zealand’s most spectacular and accessible mountain. Enjoy a trek up Mt Taranaki from pristine lowland forests, to alpine tussock upwards onto snowy slopes. Mt Taranaki has breathtaking views of multi-colour sunsets over wild beaches of the Taranaki coastline.

In New Plymouth visit the amazing Puke Ariki Museum or the famous Govett-Brewster Art Gallery with its extensive Len Lye collection, one of New Zealand's most widely-known and eclectic modernist artists. His famous sculpture Wind Wand can be seen along New Plymouth’s attractive waterfront. The picture postcard Pukekura Park and Zoo and the Aquatic Centre are two more great New Plymouth attractions for the whole family. Backpackers and music lovers converge on New Plymouth in March every year for WOMAD, the World of Music and Dance festival. Book at the YHA New Plymouth hostel early for this magical event.

Other fantastic activities to do while staying at New Plymouth include exploring the Taranaki coastal walkway, surfing some of New Zealand’s top surf beach or taking a cruise to Sugar Loaf Islands Marine Reserve to view the seals at play on an old English lifeboat. New Plymouth is a place backpackers will never want to leave.

The gardens were beautiful, staff very friendly, showers pristine, homely atmosphere. Lovely and calming over several days, I'm sure backpackers with a hefty pack may find it a slog from and into New Plymouth centre itself though. Other than that, great.
