About Coromandel
Coromandel town is located near the northern tip of one of New Zealand’s most scenic coastal areas – the Coromandel Peninsula in the North Island. The town itself is on Coromandel Harbour where you can enjoy many water activities like kayaking and fishing in the harbour or enjoy the fishing and the view from a charter boat.
Driving Creek Railways & Potteries is New Zealand’s only narrow-gauge train ride in the Coromandel and includes two spirals, three short tunnels, five reversing points and several large viaducts as it climbs up to the top of a local mountain.
There are numerous walks and tramps nearby including the Coromandel Coastal Walkway, Waiau Water Works, Stamper Battery (working) walks, as well as the Castle Rock, 2 Kauri Groves and Fletchers Bay walkways. Walk along the historic buildings in the centre of the town, dating back to Coromandel’s gold rush beginnings or just relax at one of the many cafes and enjoy the laid back atmosphere.
